Jan A. Carpenter grew up sharing with the Osage Tribe in a small town, of Hominy, Oklahoma. There incorporating native traditions into the everyday life. This, along with having East Cherokee heritage in her own family history has brought its own perspective into her art.
Following environmental interest which brought her to Oregon, she completed her Bachelors at Oregon State University. Pairing a Science degree in Microbiology with Art focused in Printmaking. She then continued graduate studies in photography and lithography at George Washington University in Washington DC while exploring the idea of medical illustration.
